Collect

God our creator, who in the beginning commanded the light to shine out of darkness: we pray that the light of the glorious gospel of Christ may dispel the darkness of ignorance and unbelief, shine into the hearts of all your people, and reveal the knowledge of your glory in the face of Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Post Communion

Generous Lord, in word and eucharist we have proclaimed the mystery of your love: help us so to live out our days that we may be signs of your wonders in the world; through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen

CANDLEMAS,

THURSDAY 2ND FEBRUARY

In Christianity, candles represent the light and warmth that Jesus Christ brought to the world when he was born. This is why candles play a prominent part in advent, and other Christian festivals.

In Christian tradition, the end of Christmas celebrations come on February 2nd, 40 days after Christmas Day and the season of Epiphany.

Collect

Almighty and ever-living God, clothed in majesty, whose beloved Son was this day presented in the Temple, in substance of our flesh: grant that we may be presented to you with pure and clean hearts, by your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.

Amen

Post Communion

Lord, you fulfilled the hope of Simeon and Anna, who lived to welcome the Messiah: may we, who have received these gifts beyond words, prepare to meet Christ Jesus when he comes to bring us to eternal life; for he is alive and reigns, now and for ever. Amen

Please pray for:-

Only a few days left to respond. - Lent Day: 2023

In the past we have organised a day away at Stanton House near Oxford during Lent. These have comprised of short services, reflections, and time to oneself. I am exploring the idea of organising something during Lent this year either at Stanton house (£35 including coffee, lunch, and tea) or more locally. I would appreciate knowing if anyone might be interested in either of these possibilities before I plan any further. Responses by 31st January please to Tel: 702300 or carrieoregan1@btinternet.com. Thank you. Carrie

The days are drawing out at last.

28th January sunrise 07.45 – sunset 16.42 – (21 minutes longer than last week)!!

It all helps with extra daylight, however little.

Only 8 weeks to the Vernal Equinox when Spring begins!!!

And finally

If Candlemas Day be fair and bright

Winter will have another fight.

If Candlemas Day brings cloud and rain,

Winter won't come again.'
